Intent: Key Policy Documents
INTENT
Our school offers a broad foundation of mathematical experiences designed to provide all pupils with the understanding, skills and knowledge needed to deal with everyday situations and experiences. A sound understanding of Mathematics enables children to understand and appreciate relationships and pattern in both number and space in their everyday lives. We aim for children to master number sense fluently.
Our Curriculum intends that pupils;
- Become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics, including through varied and frequent practice with increasingly complex problems over time, so that children have conceptual understanding and are able to recall and apply their knowledge rapidly and accurately
- Reason mathematically by following a line of enquiry, conjecturing relationships and generalisations, and developing an argument, justification or proof using mathematical language
- Can solve problems by applying their mathematics to a variety of routine and non-routine problems with increasing sophistication, including breaking down problems into a series of simpler steps and persevering in seeking solutions.
These documents outline how Shrewsbury Cathedral Catholic Primary School and Nursery teach Maths across the phases. They may be used to help support your children's progress and learning and as a point of reference for you on our intentions for inclusive curriculum delivery.
