Autumn Term 2020

Welcome back and welcome to year 5!

I am looking forward to teaching you all again! A little about me, if you remember I love to read and think that reading is so important. As I love to say ' Reading is knowledge and knowledge is power!' Something that I also really care about, and have always tried to teach you all, is how to make sure we are always be making an effort to look after our planet Earth!

Next year, we will have Mrs Wegrzyn with us helping us with all your learning and putting smiles on your face with her positive, happy work attitude, always helping you to be the best you can be!

Our first topic in the Autumn term is ‘Shared World!’, where we will  be learning all about Holland. With this topic we will start the year off with the book Stig of the Dump. This book will take us on adventure back into the Stone age, where we will learn all about Stig's adventures!  In history, we will learn the key similarities between Holland and Great Britain.

As the term progress', we will move onto our science unit, Earth and Space. We will explore the solar system and the different phases of the moon.

In maths, we will begin the year looking at number and place value: reading, writing and ordering 5 digit numbers. We will then progress onto learning about counting, estimating, mental addition and subtraction.
